Trends in exhaust emission regulations for automobiles - international harmonization and honest engineering

Entering into the 21st century, measuring and regulating the exhaust emissions from automobiles has become an important issue because the emission levels are getting much lower year by year as regulation standards advance all over the world. It is therefore necessary to introduce newly developed certification procedures with up-to-date techniques that account for advanced engine technologies. Such certification procedures are now under discussion in the working group of the Economic Commission for Europe in the United Nations as an international collaboration of activities related to the harmonization of automotive standards.
