In vitro propagation studies were conducted using four promising cultivars of chrysanthemum viz., Basanthi, Chandrika, CO2 and Red Gold to standardize best growth regulator concentrations for shoot initiation, shoot proliferation in MS media,with nodal segment and shoot tip explants. NAA 0.10 mg l~(-1) + BAP at 2.0 mg l~(-1) with cv. Basanthi (7.67) and cv. Chandrika (8.07) produced maximum number of shoots per explant. While at 0.20 mg l~(-1) NAA + 2.0 mg l~(-1) BAP both cvs. CO 2 (11.13) and Red Gold (9.60) produced maximum number of shoots with nodal segment explant. While in shoot tip explant, all cultivars except cv. Red Gold produced maximum number of shoots per explant with 0.20 mg l~(-1) NAA + 2.0 mg l~(-1) BAP. Further the cv. Red Gold produced maximum number of shoots with 2.0 mg l~(-1) BAP alone (3.27) with shoot tip explant.
