The present study was undertaken in selected two districts of Maharashtra state with objective to estimate economics of production of rabbit meat. For the study seventy four rabbit farms were selected and analysed. The varieties used by sample farms were New Zealand White, Soviet Chinchilla, Grey Giant, White Giant. The average weight of the bunnies was-2.43 kg. and the average price received by farms was Rs. 226. On an average 2.5 units were with the farms. It is seen from the economics of rabbit farming that on an average rabbit meat production cost per unit (10 rabbits: 6 females four male) was Rs. 55778 and the average returns were Rs. 114211. Thus,fromthe data analysis of cost and returns, the per unit per year net returns received from rabbitmeat was estimated and it was Rs. 58433. The cost benefit ratio was 1:2.04. This means for every rupee invested you can get more than two rupees income. This clearly indicates that this is a profitable farming. Moreover, it gives gainful employment to the family members and others in rural areas as in the production costs maximum about 40% is imputed value of family labourers.
