Response of Summer Green Gram Crop to Liquid Manure

The field experiment was conducted in the research Farm ofB.C.K.V., at Mohanpur, West Bengal (22°93/ N,88°53' E) during two consecutive summer seasons at upland situation in sandy loam alluvial soil having 0.74% Organic Carbon, 0,07% total N, 24.65kg/ha available P_20_5, 185.51 kg/ha available K_20 and pH 7.2. The crop was raised with only one pre-sowing irrigation. The research work was carried out in RBD with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The green gram cultivar used in the experiment was Sonali (B-l).The treatments were, viz. T^controlQSIo fertilizer or manure was applied); T_2: Fertilizer control (recommended dose ofN-P_20_5-K_20 were applied @20-40-40 kg/ha respectively); T_3: Soil application of liquid manure at 25 DAS @ 1 lit/m~2; T_4:Soil application of liquid manure at 25 and 45 DAS @ 1 lit/m2; T5: Foliar application of liquid manure at 25 DAS @ 50 ml/m~2 (i.e. 500lit/ha) and T_6: foliar application of liquid manure at 25 & 45 DAS @ 50 ml/m~2 (i.e. 500lit/ha). The result of the experiment revealed that application of liquid manure had a significant influence on growth and yield of summer green gram crop. The growth parameters like plant height, aerial drymass were increased significantly over the control treatment due to application of liquid manure. Similarly seed yield of the crop was increased significantly due to application of liquid manure. Seed yield of green gram crop varied betiveen 592.35 kg/ha to 649.90 kg/ha when liquid manure was applied, but it was only 463.02 kg/hain the control treatment. There were Improvements on two main yield components like number of pods/ unit area and number of seeds/pod. However, Test weight of seed was at per. There was a positive and significant correlation betiveen number of pods/ unitarea and seed yield (r-0.96). Foliar application of liquid manure gave a comparatively better result than the soil application of liquid manure. This might be due to better growth and development of the crop because the plants got nutrients directly from the foliar spray. One of the major constituents for low yield of most of the pulses has been found due to their poor management and inadequate supply of costly nutrients. Therefore, it may be concluded from the experimental results that application ofLiquid manure, particularly on the foliage of the crop, may be a good sustainable management practice to increase tlie yield of green gram crop under limited moisture condition.
