摘要

The aim of this work is utilization of solid iron bamboo (SIB) waste by production of carbon adsorbent withappropriate properties for removal of As(III) ions from water. Steam pyrolysis was found to be a suitable method forproduction of activated carbon, due to the chemical composition of solid iron bamboo (Dendrocalamus strictus), thatcontains relatively high amount of lignin. The carbon adsorbent was produced using ground sample of solid ironbamboo, pressed into pellets. The resultant adsorbent sample was characterized by well developed pore structure,relatively high surface area (810 m~2.g~(-1))and different oxygen-containing groups, present on the surface.Studies on the adsorption of arsenic ions from aqueous solution on activated carbon, obtained from solid ironbamboo pellets, reveals the possibility for using it to remove of As(III) ions from water.
