An experiment has been conducted to compare the growth and yield attributing characters of pigeon pea under integrated weed management practices with eight treatments and three replications. Tlie highest plant population per meter row length and height of pigeon pea was recorded at 30 days stage of plant growth due to pre-emergence application of oxyflourfen @ 0.2 kg ai ha-1 in pigeon pea (75 cm) intercropped with 2 line of black gram which was significantly higher than farmers practices, weedy checkand pigeon pea (75 cm) intercropping with 2 line of black gram, while plant population was recorded highest at 60 & 90 DAS and at harvesting also. All initial stage of plant grozuth, per-emergence application of oxyflourfen @ 0.2 kg ai/lia and intercropped tioo line of black gram might have reduced the competition better crop and weeds for resources. In later stage of plant growth tioo, hand weeding (30 & 60 DAS) recorded the maximum plant population per metre row length. This may be attributed to better management of weeds resulting in increase in plant population. Number of branches in pigeon pea increased at different stage of crop groiuth. It was also observed that the weed control treatments had significant influence on number of branches per plant of pigeon pea compared to weedy check. The maximum number of branches per plant of pigeon pea was recorded under hand weeding (30 and 60 DAS) treatment, which was statistically at par with pre-emergence application of imazethapyr @ 0.1 kg ai ha-1 andoxyflourfen @ 0.2 kg ai ha-1 in pigeon pea (75 cm) intercropped with 2 line of groundnut and two line of black gram respectively at 30 days. Hand weeding and herbicide reduced the crop-weed competition at early stage of plant growth and favourable condition for crop growth might have been developed as compared to other treatments and weedy check. While two hand weeding (30 & 60 DAS) gave the highest number of branches which was significantly higher than obtained under weedy check or other treatments. Tliis may be attributed to effective weed control or weed free environment was made available to crops.
