Maximisation of Seed Size Tuber Production Through Agronomic Techniques in Seed Potato (Solatium tuberosum L) Crop

A field experiment was conducted during winter season of year 2003 and 2004 at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh for maximization of seed size tuber production through planting of different size tubers with different intra row spacing in Kufri Chandramukhi andKufri Jyoti varieties of potato. A total of eight treatment combinations were tried in randomized block design in three replications. In K Chandramukhi, 75 g tubers planted at 25 cm intra row spacing were found suitable for obtaining significantly highest yield of seed size tubers (25-75 g) per hectare both by number (198000) and weight (82.5 q) while in K Jyoti, significantly higher yield of seed size tubers per hectare both by number (195000) and weight (72.4 q) were obtained when 50 g seed size tubers were planted at 20 cm intra row spacing. The highest total tuber production in K Chandramukhi and K Jyoti was obtained with 75 g seed size tuber planted at 25 cm intra row spacing. Seed size of 25-50 g tubers were found economical to get maximum seed size tuber production considering the B: C ratio.
