摘要

The effect of electric current pulses (ECP)on grain size in castings is considered Therelationship between grain size and electric currentdensity is revealed Numerical calculation shows thatan electric current density with a magnitude of l0~A/cm2 is needed to reduce the grain size by one orderof magnitude for some pure metals, such as Ni, Sn, Pb,Cu, and Fe. The effects of Joule heating, skin, andpinch force are proved to be of lesser importance. Thetheory gives a good explanation for the experimentalresults reported by Conrad and co-workers.
