Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare presenting as an endobronchial tumour due to immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome

Summary: Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare (MAI) infection in an HIV-positive patient can present shortly after starting antiretroviral therapy, as a result of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS). We report a case of a 33-year-old woman where MAI presented as an endobronchial tumour due to IRIS. She responded well to standard anti-MAI treatment (rifamycins, macrolide and ethambutol).
