摘要

This paper describes the present situation of technical developments undertaken to meet the latest emission regulations of diesel engines while engine power and fuel economy are improved. It also discusses some new approaches to the recently introduced high BMEP engine in Japan, USA and Europe. To the cleaner of exhaust emissions, the after-treatment devices are essential. This paper describes the conversion efficiency of the devices against NO{sub}x, CO, HC and PM and their fuel penalty. This paper also discusses the possibility of new combustion concepts, that is, premixed compression ignition combustion such as PREDIC by the use of high boosted supercharging.
