MAPPING OF TWELVE BOVINE MICROSATELLITES ON RIVER BUFFALO CHROMOSOMES AND HOMOLOGY WITH CATTLE CHROMOSOMES

Synteny and chromosomal assignment of twelve bovine microsatellites to river buffalo chromosomes have been investigated in this study. They are ANP1, BRY.1, BC1.2, CSSM003, CSSM013, CSSM022, CSSM027, ETH3, ETH185, INRA061, INRA063 and UWCA026. The segregation of the PCR products of specific primers for these markers was recorded in forty-five somatic buffalo/hamster hybrids. The results showed that ten of these microsatellites formed five syntenic groups; ANP1/UWCA026, CSSM022/INRA061, CSSM027/ETH3 CSSM003/CSSM013 and BRY.1/BC1.2, whereas the other two markers, INRA063 and ETH185, were segregated independently from each other and from the five syntenic groups. The correlation coefficient between these tested markers and other markers -representing syntenic groups and chromosomes- was calculated to assign these markers to river buffalo chromosomes. The results showed that ANP1 and UWCA026 are assigned to river buffalo chromosome 19 (BBU19), CSSM022 and INRA061 are assigned to BBU4, CSSM027 and ETH3are assigned to BBU3, CSSM003 and CSSM013 are assigned to BBU5 and BRY.l and BC1.2 are assigned to Y chromosome. The other two independently segregated markers, INRA063 is assigned to BBU18 and ETH185 is assigned to BBU17.
