To the Editor: I read with interest the recent article by Qiu et al. (1). Interest has been growing in accelerated partial breast irradiation, as evidenced by the proliferation of techniques and approaches (2). Conformal external beam radiotherapy is one of the approaches with great potential (3), principally because of the availability of the linear accelerators in most radiotherapy departments. Qiu et al. (1) present yet another approach of conformal external beam radiotherapy to the implementation of accelerated partial breast irradiation.The scientific and clinical content of their report is sound; however, the accuracy of the references leaves much to be desired. Accurate referencing is an important aspect of scientific communication (4-6). The weight of credit accorded an author in the citation database will be diminished if the name is incorrect. In addition, referencing flaws impede the retrieval process. Correct references support the authors' knowledge of the topic and add credibility to their conclusions (4). Citation errors can involve the authors' name, title of the article, name of the journal, volume number, year of publication, and pages. Quotation errors occur when the cited references either failed to substantiate or was unrelated to, or even contradicted, the authors' assertion (7).
