The 7th International Symposium on Physical, Molecular, Cellular, and Medical Aspects of Auger Processes was held from 24-26 August 2011 at Forschungszentrum Jiilich, Germany, as an official satellite symposium of the 14th International Congress of Radiation Research. Auger-electron-emitting radionuclides provide a unique source of radiation. Decaying mainly by electron capture, several low-energy, short-ranging electrons are released. This enables the targeted irradiation of small volumes in the immediate vicinity of these radionuclides. Possible applications of this feature in radiobiology and nuclear medicine were already presented and discussed at an international conference held at Jiilich in 1975. Increased research on this topic led to the first meeting in the current series in 1987 at Harwell (UK). Since then it has become a regular Auger Symposium with meetings in Amherst (USA) in 1991, Lund (Sweden) in 1995 and 1999, Melbourne (Australia) in 2003, and Boston (USA) in 2007.
