CYSTIC FIBROSIS SCREENING RECOMMENDED FOR ALL WOMEN

Obstetricians should offer all women cystic fibrosis (CF) screening, regardless of their ethnic background, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) advises.An April ACOG Committee on Genetics opinion, published in the April issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology, suggests that obstetricians offer CF screening to all women of reproductive age [Committee on Genetics, 2011]. The guidance replaces a 2005 opinion that recommended obstetricians offer screening to Ashkenazi Jews and non-Hispanic whites, while making it available to other patients who requested testing (Committee on Genetics, 2005).
