Ir-Nb alloys were fabricated via a pulse electric current sintering (PECS) process with addition of Ni or Al from powder mixtures. A sintering temperature of 1800 deg C and a holding time of 4 h were used. Relative densities of sintered sample exceeded 90 percent theoretical density. Phases and microstructures were analyzed. The influence of Ni and Al on the microstructure was compared. Metal loss during sintering and the existence of pores were the main problems found in this study.
