Reaction of dpnapy dpnapy = 7-diphenylphosphino-2,4-dimethyl- 1,8-naphthyridine with Au(tht)Cl (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) in dichloromethane afforded Au(dpnapy)(3)(+), which shows a strong affinity towards Cu-I and Cd-II ions; crystal structures of AuCu(dpnapy)(3)ClO4(2) and AuCd(dpnapy)(3)ClO4(3) revealed that Au(dpnapy)(3)(+) functions as a metalloligand with the three naphthyridyl groups positioned in a trigonal fashion.
