Explosive growth expected for aluminum-bodied cars and trucks

More than 75 of all new pickup trucks produced in North Americawill be aluminium-bodied by 2025, according to a recent survey ofcarmakers conducted by Ducker Worldwide. The study, which confirmsa breakthrough for automotive aluminium into high-volumevehicles, surveyed all major carmakers. It reports that Ford, GM andFiat Chrysler will become the biggest users of aluminium sheet in thenext decade. It also forecasts that the number of vehicles with completealuminium body structures will reach 18 of North Americanproduction, from less than 1 today. Vehicle segments revealed asemerging aluminium content leaders are pickup trucks, sport-utilityvehicles and both mid-sized and full-size sedans.
