According to the author, "this book views powder metallurgy from a perspective based on the laws of physics, chemistry, mechanics and dynamics, thermodynamics and kinetics, and chemical engineering. It is written for engineering students with a background in materials, metallurgy, ceramics, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, and engineered materials." The book is an evolution from Professor German's very successful book Powder Metallurgy Science (first edition 1984, second edition 1994). The sixteen chapters cover the production, characterization, shaping and consolidation, sintering, and high-density processing of particulate materials, as well as the characterization of PM compacts, finishing operations, materials and properties, process economics, and markets and applications. Appendices cover common terms in the field of particulate materials, PM standards, material properties, and constants and conversion factors.
