China expects energy demand growth to slow

China’s energy consumption growth is likely to slow this year, with the government targeting a 0.9pc rise in demand, down from 1.4pc in 2016. The national energy administration (NEA) wants to cap consumption at 4.4bn t of coal equivalent (tce) in 2017, with the share of non-thermal fuels climbing to 14.3pc from 13.3pc last year. But renewables growth is likely to slow in the remainder of this decade, with Beijing targeting a share of just 15pc by 2020.
