The new Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry (the Code) came into effect on January l,2006.] The Code has been in use since 1958, operating as a system of self-regulation, underpinned by legislation (see table I for a list of the legislation) Ihe Code has been revised regularly, usually every two to three years, The 2006 Code is the result of an extensive review during 2004 and 2005 - the first major review in over ten years.
