Identification and Interpretation of Joint Disease in Paleopathology and Forensic Anthropology by Nicole M. Burt, Dyan Semle, Kathryn Waterhouse, and Nancy C. Lovell is a welcome addition to osteological reference manuals, especially since Rogers and Waldron's (1995) A Field Guide to Joint Disease in Archaeology is out-of-print. Burt and colleagues book is a concise 96-page (including appendices, glossary, and an extensive bibliography, which is missing in the Rogers and Waldron's volume) reference manual with a spiral bound cover that can easily be brought into any field situation. The chapters are well organized. I particularly like the separate subsections on clinical and osteological diagnoses; these subsections are found in chapters I, II, and III, but not in chapter IV.
