Recollections on the life of Professor Ewa Kossowska MD

Professor Kossowska MD was born in Lvov on 14th September 1923. She began medical studies in 1942 at the wartime clandestine University of Warsaw, completing them in 1949 at Poznan. Working together with Dr Jan Danielewicz, Professor Kossowska then set up the pediatric laryngology clinic at Litewska Street, Warsaw, in 1956, where she continued to work until her retirement in 1993. Both were responsible for establishing pediatric laryngology in Poland as well as in other countries. In 1961 Professor Kossowska finished her doctorate entitled 'Analysing symptoms of respiratory failure in young children', and continuing on her interest in this medical field, received her 'habilitation' (equivalent in the USA to Assistant Professorship) in 1971 on 'Applying acoustic spectral analysis for investigating laryngeal stridor in children'. Professor Kossowska received her full Professorship in 1983.
