摘要

To our knowledge, apart from a closed-form solution for a simply supported I-beam subjected to uniform moment, most buckling loads are obtained by numerical methods. By using Galerkin's method of weighted residuals, an accurate approximatesolution for lateral buckling of simply supported I-beam is proposed in this paper. Due to fast convergence of the method, the solution can be written in closed form. The results compare well with the previous work including experimental results andoptimal and finite element analytical results.
