It has been speculated that statins, by virtue of their pleiotropic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, may protect against new onset atrial fibrillation (AF), decrease the risk of recurrent AF, and delay transition of paroxysmal to permanents forms. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the effect of statins on AF in the setting of congestive heart failure (CHF). We, therefore, assessed the impact of statins on overall AF burden and recurrent AF in patients with CHF.
