Quantification of serum ferritin in the acute coronary syndrome: A puzzle still to be resolved?

On behalf of the authors, we thank Dr Yalta et al. for their letter in reference to our paper [1]. They raised important questions regarding potential antioxidant features of serum ferritin. Consistent with their notions, lower serum ferritin levels may be associated with enhancement of myocardial ischemic response along with decreased ischemia threshold in the setting of ischemic conditions. Therefore, it seems plausible that serum ferritin levels may appear to be an important determinant of myocardial ischemic burden during episodes of ischemia [2].
