Updates on new oral anticoagulants and percutaneous devices for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation

In our recently published article we reviewed evidence on direct thrombin inhibitor and left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion as potential alternatives to warfarin for the prevention of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) [1]. Results from several eagerly awaited trials of factor Xa inhibitors have recently been released. We herein present these results together with the latest development on the LAA occlusion systems.
