SOCIAL CHANGES AND FAMILIALTRANSFORMATIONS IN THE METROPOLITAN AREAOF MONTERREY, MEXICO

摘要

This work reviews the main socio-economical and socio-demographic changes faced by the society of the Metropolitan area of Monterrey, from the second half of XX Century and familial transformation such changes have provoked. It start from the premise that such changes are similar to those that have shocked families from West countries of Europe and North America, even though it occurs at different times and rates. But due to huge social inequalities characterizing Mexico, in general, and Monterrey, in particular, such transformations do not affect evenly the whole population, and it produces a context full of ambivalences, ambiguities and tensions between change and permanence.
