Admission B-type natriuretic peptide retains prognostic value in patients with acute coronary syndrome and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction

Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) often present with increased plasma levels of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) [1,2] that have a high prognostic value [3]. However, there is little information concerning whether the clinical value of this cardiac marker is different between ACS patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (pLVEF) and patients with reduced LVEF (rLVEF). In the current study, we aimed to evaluate plasma levels of BNP in patients with ACS in order to compare the clinical information provided by this parameter between patients with pLVEF and rLVEF.
