摘要

Obese populations commonly present increased arterial stiffness (AS) in central (i.e. aorta and its main branches) and peripheral arteries [1 ], which is independently associated with adverse cardiovascular events [2], Although the mechanisms linking obesity and AS are not completely understood, there are known obesity-related alterations such as endothelial dysfunction and increased sympathetic activity that may contribute to increased AS [3], On the other hand, therapeutic strategies including regular physical activity and exercise training may counteract the aforementioned alterations [4], thus preventing or reversing AS.
