Recurrent ventricular fibrillation during a febrile illness and hyperthermia in a patient with dilated cardiomyopathy and automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator. An example of reversible electrical storm.

We report a case of a patient affected by dilated cardiomyopathy and implanted with an automatic cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) for sustained ventricular tachycardia who suffered from recurrent ventricular fibrillation during a febrile illness without any other associated inducible causes. This is an example of multiple episodes of ICD electrical storm. We would like also to outline the need for an immediate treatment of all causes of hyperthermia occurring in patients with malignant ventricular arrhythmias (often requiring an ICD) in order to prevent possible refractory rhythm disorders and consequent unsuccessful resuscitation.
