Additional side branch stent placement in patients with long side branch lesions treated with the Tryton dedicated bifurcation side branch stent

Treatment of bifurcation lesions account for approximately 20% of all percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and is associated with increased risk of adverse cardiac events when compared with percutaneous treatment of non-bifurcation lesions [1,2]. Therefore, several dedicated bifurcation stents, such as the Tryton Side Branch Stent? (Tryton Medical, Durham, NC, USA), have been developed to improve clinical outcomes after PCI of bifurcation lesions. The Tryton stent is a balloon-expandable cobalt-chromium tare-metal stent conceived specifically to treat bifurcation lesions. The distal side branch zone has the design characteristics of a standard slotted tube stent, whereas the central transition zone contains three panels each of which can be deformed in an independent fashion to scaffold the side branch (SB) ostium. The proximal main branch (MB) zone is composed of three fronds that allow easy wiring of the MB and are connected distally to the transition zone panels and terminate proximally in two circumferential bands. After deploying the Tryton stent in the SB, any stent can be placed in the MB to complete the bifurcating architecture using a facilitated culotte technique.
