Chronic cicatrising conjunctivitis in a patient with hemifacial cutaneous tuberculosis.

An 83-year-old woman presented in December 2006 with a 2 year history of redness, irritation, ptosis and excessive lacrimation in the left eye treated with topical corticosteroids and antibiotics without improvement. On examination, visual acuity was RE 20/40 and LE 20/100. The right eye was normal in all aspects. Left eye external examination disclosed diffuse conjunctival injection (2+), 360?corneal neovascularisation, important ptosis resulting from fornix foreshortening and symblepharon formation (fig 1 inset). The anterior chamber was quiet and deep; intraocular pressure was normal. Funduscopic examination was within normal limits.
