Template based systems provides an environment for a variant design process to use the knowledge of previously designed products/models to support the development of new products. The main objective with developing such an environment involves integrating technologies such as product representation using parametric and features, knowledge and template-based applications to support integrated product and process life cycles, and an automated design and computing systems. This article will present a template-based engineering design environment for integrated design of product, process, and reconfigurable manufacturing facility layout.
