A field experiment was conducted during the raW season of 2014-15 at Student's Research Farm Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab with sowing of cultivar PL 807 of barley. The soil of experimental field was moderately alkaline (8.3) to strongly alkaline (8.8) soil, the experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) with 9 treatments have three planting techniques viz. unidirectional (UD), bidirectional (BD), broadcast (BC) and three cutting practices viz. uncut (UNC), cut at 50DAS (C50DAS) and cut at 60 DAS (C_(MDAS)) with four replications. The growth parameter (plant height, leaf area index, tillers and dry matter accumulation) in bidirectional planting and UNC treatments was significantly higher than other treatments. The yield attributes (ear heads, spike weight, number of grains par spike and grain weight par spike) and yield (grain and stra_w) were significantly higher recorded in bidirectional planting techniques followed by BC, UD, C_(MDAS) and C_(MDAS) of barley. Thehighest benefit cost ratio and production efficiency followed by C_(MDAS). The weed population at 90 DAS and 120 DAS reduced significantly under bidirectional (22.5><22.5cm) planting than other treatments and weed dry biomass at 90 DAS and 120 DAS reduced significantly under bidirectional (22.5><22.5cm) and cut at 60 DAS than other planting.
