On the 25 July, 2009, The Times claimed that nurses were dropping their opposition to assisted suicide. The story was that the RCN has recently carried out a consultation with members on assisted suicide and, as a result, adopted a 'neutral' position on the subject. This statement was reinforced by a poll carried out by The Times, which claimed that almost three-quarters (74%) of people want doctors to be allowed to help terminally ill patients to end their lives.
