JIT Based Quality Management and Issues of Implementation

With a philosophy that calls for eliminating all sources of waste, including unnecessary inventory and scrap in production, JIT Based Quality Management has not only affected the manufacturing but also marketing, planning, human resource management, and other organizational functions in today's highly competitive business environment. Therefore, this paper presents some unique concepts that are essential for successfully implementation of JIT Based quality management. This approach requires detailed attention to quality both in purchasing and production because it cannot function properly with high rate of material defects. Some unique purchasing and quality control techniques are therefore essential for its success so that raw material or components can be arrived at industries just as they needed. Therefore, this paper discusses the some changes that are required to implement the JIT Based quality management in traditional or existing production system. This approach stressed on long-term benefits resulting from waste elimination, and continuous improvements to systems, programs, products, and people. It has significant impact on quality control, purchasing functions, and work culture with a philosophy that encompasses cost, meeting delivery schedules, employee's empowerment and skill development, supplier relations and development of new products. Therefore, this paper also examines the impact of JIT on quality control; purchasing and work culture.
