The ionmdash;molecule reactions which H3+and D3+ions undergo with acetylene, methylacetylene, ethylene, propylene, and cyclopropane have been investigated by highhyphen;pressure mass spectrometry, and the rate constants have been measured. In all cases, proton (or deuteron) transfer from H3+(or D3+) to the hydrocarbons occurs, and leads to the formation of excited ions which may either be stabilized by collision or decompose in smaller fragments when energy requirements are satisfied. Several kinetic parameters are assessed. Reactivity data for some ions with hydrogen, deuterium, and hydrocarbons are also reported.
