The infrared spectra of crystalline K3Ir(CN)6and K3Rh(CN)6have been recorded. This information is combined with Raman data of other workers to yield a nearly complete assignment of the fundamental vibrational frequencies of the M(CN)63mdash;ions. Force constants have been calculated for these ions and that of Co(CN)63mdash;from previously reported spectra, and it is shown that there is a regular increase in metalmdash;carbon force constant in the order CoRhIr. The CN stretching force constant is about the same for these ions. The forcehyphen;constant data along with intensity data indicate an increase in both metalmdash;ligand sigma bonding and pi bonding in the order CoRhIr.
