Creative nursing: art or science?

The Government's commitment to reducing bureaucracy in the public sector and the latest White Paper on the health service may have some interesting implications and opportunities for nurses. In particular, we must push forward the importance of allocating time for nurses to develop their creative skills and holistic approach in establishing quality patient care outcomes. With the end of the 'target driven culture' and the emphasis on patient-centredness, this is the time for the 'art' of nursing to re-establish itself.
