Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has received considerable criticism over the last few weeks about the radical plans he's outlined for the NHS in the Health and Social Care Bill. The Bill proposes some of the most radical changes ever seen since the inception of the NHS in 1948, the most controversial of which is to give GP consortia pound86 billion of NHS money to take over the commissioning of health services from primary care trusts. One cannot fail to have seen and heard some of the comments made about the proposed changes but, most distressing to Mr Lansley, must be the vote made by nurses attending the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Annual Congress in Liverpool (13th April 2011) where delegates at the event voted 99% in favour of a motion of no confidence in his management of NHS reforms.
