At last, quality of life issues in relation to wound management are finally rising to the top of the tissue viability agenda, with comfort and pain being explored in greater depth than ever before. This is demonstrated by the number of consensus documents and guidelines published over the past decade and is a welcome move away from the domination of economics and cost-effectiveness (although these still have to be carefully considered in times of increasing pressure on health-care budgets).
