Studies described in the preceding paper indicate that excitation energy transfer probably occurs in alkanes, particularly alkane polymers, with high efficiency. This raises many questions concerning primary radiation reactions in such materials and the part that excitation energy transfer may play in them, not the least of which is why such an effect was not clearly characterized long ago. The predictions made by exciton theory on such problems are compared with available experimental data, and as far as can be ascertained at present the two are almost completely consistent with one another.
