The infrared fluorescence risetime of the ngr;1,ngr;4Csngbnd;H stretching modes of CH3F has been measured in CH3Fhyphen;rarehyphen;gas mixtures after pumping of the ngr;3Csngbnd;F stretching modes with a Qhyphen;switched CO2laser. The pressurehyphen;dependent rate of rise was found to be 122 plusmn; 25 msecminus;1middot; torrminus;1in pure CH3F. The effect of rare gases on this rate process was also studied and found to be consistent with a vibrationhyphen;vibration filling mechanism for ngr;1,ngr;4involving a small amount of energy transfer (le; 75 cmminus;1) into the translationalsol;rotational degrees of freedom.
