The 0ndash;0 band of theAtilde;thinsp;2Pgr;ndash;Xtilde;thinsp;2Sgr;+transition of the linear free radical strontium monoisocyanate, SrNCO, was recorded at high resolution. By comparing the molecular constants of SrNCO with related molecules, the NCOminus;ligand was found to be nitrogen bonding to the strontium atom. The spectrum is extremely dense because of the small rotational constant,Blsquo;=0.0426 cmminus;1, and overlapping sequence structure. The Srndash;N bond length was estimated to be 2.26thinsp;Aring; in the groundXtilde;thinsp;2Sgr;+state.
