Six healthy male cattle were exercised on a treadmill for 1 h at 5 km/h and were exposed to direct solar radiation for 1 h. Treadmill exercise increased rectal temperature, rate of evaporation from skin and pulmonary surfaces. Increased in rectal temperature and evaporative losses due to solar exposure were comparatively less. Respiratory vaporization increased after treadmill exercise and solar exposure by 29.22?.26 gm m-2/h and 26.27?.76 gm m-2/h, respectively. Respiratory frequency increased after treadmill exercise (2.2 fold) and after solar exposure (1.9 fold). Increase in pulmonary ventilation, dead space ventilation and alveolar ventilation was higher after exercise than after solar exposure.
