STUDIES ON INCUBATION PERFORMANCE AND EMBRYONIC MORTALITY PATTERN IN DIFFERENT STRAINS OF FOWL

No matter how accurately the selection of eggs and management of incubation is performed, the incubation and hatching performance is the ultimate result. Considering above, the present work has been undertaken to find out the comparative differences in incubation and hatching performances of eggs from different strains of fowl. The experiment was conducted on there strains of fowl viz. Coloured, Hubbard and Vencobb in a privately owned hatchery at Dum Dum in Kolkata with 1500, 1100 and 1000 eggs respectively. The characters considered for studying incubation and hatching performance were (1) egg weight loss up to 19 days of incubation (2) chick weight (3) embryonic efficiency (4) fertility (5) hatchability (6) embryonic mortality and (7) embryonic mortality pattern (early mortality - 0 to 7 days, mid mortality 8 to 14 days, late mortality 15 to 21 days.). The data were statistically analyzed according to Snedecor and Cochran (1967).
