Profiles of lines in the 3ndash;1 and 2ndash;0 bands of theBthinsp;3Pgr;0+larr;Xthinsp;1Sgr;+system of I35Cl and I37Cl vapor, as well as in several fragmentaryPandRbranches associated with an adiabaticBprime; state, have been recorded using a Fabryndash;Perot interferometer spectrometer. The potential curves of theBstate, and of the adiabaticBprime; state formed by an avoided crossing near 3.6 Aring; and 18thinsp;140 cmminus;1between theBstate and a repulsiveYO+state, have been determined using the intermediate coupling model of Child. Linewidths inv=2 of theBstate are observed to be 0.034 cmminus;1, independent ofJand of isotopic composition; however, linewidths inv=3 are broader, corresponding to predissociative lifetimes in the subnanosecond range, and are found tooscillateas a function ofJ. The major features of the observed linewidth pattern can be explained in terms of analytical approximations developed by Child and cohyphen;workers, and provide evidence for a second curve crossing, near 2.94 Aring; and 17thinsp;975 cmminus;1, of theBstate and an OHgr;=1 state.
