Pig rearing practices among santal tribe

The paper deals with the study of pig rearing practices among santal tribe. The average number of desi pigs reared by a Santal family was 7.16 (SD=2.91).The pigs were reared under free range system scavengingin surroundings of house and sometimes in forest area. in addition to grazing, the animals were offered various feed materials tikecooked rice mixed with rice polish, cooked 'arum' (Colocasia antiquorum) and rice gruel. With regard to housing, majority of Santals constructed separate sty for pigs. The average age at slaughter was 12.53 months with 37.31 kg body weight.
