abstract_textpPlatinum(II) coordination compounds with formulas PtCl(L) Cl, (where L=4'-(2,2'-bithiophen-5-yl)-2,2': 6', 2 ''-terpyridine (L-1), 4'-( 4-dimethylaminophenyl)-2,2': 6', 2 ''-terpyridine (L-2), 4'-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-2,2': 6', 2 ''-terpyridine (L-3)), were synthesized from K-2PtCl4 precursor and characterized by X-ray crystallography, FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and electrochemical studies. The emission properties of the compounds were studied in solutions and in solid state at ambient temperature and in methanol : ethanol frozen glass matrix at 77 K. The quantum yields of fluorescence, the lifetimes and the nature of excited states were described on the basis of the molecular properties. Theoretical calculations, with usage of DFT method, were undertaken to elucidate the structural, spectroscopic and bonding properties of the synthesized coordination compounds./p/abstract_text
