Man power utilization in growing crossbred females under different management systems of housing and feeding

The organisation and management of man-power influence proper utilization of money and material invested in dariy farming. The labour utilization pattern of four treatment groups pertaining to housing and feeding were studied. Total time spent by labour/calf/day was calculated by adding the time spent on feeding, cleaning/wahing, tethering and miscellaneous activities. The averages of total time spent/call/day were 16.39, 15.61, 16.59 and 17.54 man minutes in H_1F_1, H_1F_2, H_2F_1 and H_2F_2 grouprespectively for the calves in the age group of birth to 3 months. The crossesponding values for the calves in the age group of 3 to 6 months and 6-9 months were 19.57, 19.27, 23.14 and 21.74 man minutes; and 17.67, 18.64, 20.44 and 21.66 man minutes, respectively. It can be concluded from this study that one man can look after about 24 and 23 calves in the age group of birth to 3 months kept under loosse housing (H_1) and conventional housing (H_2) groups respectively. The corresponding figures for the calves in the age group of 3 of 6 and 6 to 9 months were 20,17 and 21,19 calves, respectively.
